92-year-old cancer survivor Harriette Thompson has become the oldest woman to complete a marathon, after finishing the San Diego Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon in seven hours, 24 minutes and 36 seconds.

Having battled cancer three times, lost her husband in January and struggled with an infected leg throughout training, Thompson overcame the odds to compete in the event. Her longest training run was just 11 miles long.

Thompson began running in her seventies to fundraise for America’s Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, making over $100,000 to date. This weekend’s event was her 16th San Diego Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon.
